The Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee (DGAC) released their scientific report on July 15, which represents an objective assessment of the latest available science on specific nutrition topics and is designed to inform the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) as they develop the 2020-2025 Dietary Guidelines for Americans (DGAs).
The public comment period on the DGAC report is now open, and USDA and HHS will be taking comments until Thursday, August 13, 2020.
NCBA encourages USDA and HHS to utilize this opportunity to improve upon the DGAC’s work and believes the 2020 DGAs should:
- Clearly recommend beef as a lean meat choice.
- Highlight the practicality of beef as a premiere protein which uniquely contributes to a healthy lifestyle, especially in early years.
- Utilize the latest, most rigorous scientific evidence on saturated fat recommendations.
- Reinforce beef’s role in health dietary patterns.
As USDA and HHS work to finalize the 2020-2025 DGAs, now is the time for beef producers to make their voice heard.
Submit your comments and tell the DGAC you support beef as a part of a healthy diet!
